What is the Nighthawks Podcast?
Set in the months leading up to the events of the Nighthawks film, this companion podcast captures raw audio diaries, late-night voice memos, investigations, and behind-the-scenes conversations between Harper, Eli, and Sarah as they attempt to unravel the mysteries surrounding the mountains — and the disappearances happening at Callaway State University.
What begins as a student film project quickly spirals into something deeper: a haunting web of folklore, buried secrets, and a truth no one is ready to face.

More About the Project
The Nighthawks Podcast was born from the quiet echoes left between scenes — the untold moments, the unanswered questions, the stories that begged to go deeper.
Screenwriter and director Kayla Borg recognized the need to expand the Nighthawks lore beyond the frame. At its heart, Nighthawks is more than a mystery — it’s a story about found family, pride, and the unflinching courage it takes to break generational curses. In a time when queer voices are being silenced and erased, this project stands as a reminder: queer stories are our stories — and they need to be told.
Through audio diaries, conversations, and recordings stitched together from the margins, the podcast offers a deeper look into the lives of Harper, Eli, and Sarah as they confront the darkness unraveling around them — and within themselves.
This is where the myth begins. This is how we remember.
Casting
Harper Helstrom (Kenna McQuown, she/her): the leader of the Nighthawks. Warm, charismatic, and friendly, she keeps everyone together. She is trying to find out what happened to her sister 10 years prior. She will do anything for her friends. She’s adventurous and always the first to dive head first into anything.
Jamie Roth (Kayla Borg, she/they): she left Callaway University under mysterious circumstances. Headstrong, intelligent Jamie doesn’t really let anyone in. Especially after the film department blamed her for the shutdown of the film program. Gritty and fiery.
Eli Parks (Jess Byard, they/he): the creator of the Nighthawks’ podcast. Eli is the one who de-escalates and brings logic to an otherwise chaotic group. Eli is trans. He is Harper’s best friend. The basement room he’s renting is often the hang-out place for the group.
Sarah Emmerson (Ty Montgomery, she/her): likes to think of herself as the “bouncer” of the Nighthawks. Sarah is hypervigilant of outsiders and is often suspicious of anyone that might hurt the group. Sarah left the film program and became a history major with a film minor.
Dr. Lucy Whittaker (JaimeLynn McGaughey): An English professor that gets sucked into the dark underbelly of Callaway, and must make important decisions on where her loyalties are as she approaches tenure.
Raine Tierney (Melissa McGaughey): The reclusive university librarian who keeps the keys — literal and otherwise — to Callaway State’s hidden past. With an encyclopedic knowledge of the campus archives and a quiet defiance beneath their cardiganed exterior, Raine helps the Nighthawks dig into records long thought forgotten. But as the truth begins to surface, they must decide how far they're willing to go to protect the students… and what secrets they're willing to let see the light.
